http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ Is a good free one. You'll need to download the WMA codec for it though to convert to/from WMA. It and other codecs can be found here (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm).

Apple ipods do NOT use Lithium batteries. Instead, they use Nickle ion batteries. This means you cannot charge like your cell phones. This means that your battery will die in 1-2 year if you protect it well and less if you keep recharging it. btw notice they charge a replacement of battery for 299.

The difference in lithium batteries and nickle ion

lithium, does not lose battery life when you recharge while not completely deplete the battery. Mostly used in cell phones.

Nickle ion = loses battery life when you recharge it while it is not completely depleted. The max capacity stays at the amount it remains, and further charging won't increase to full capacity. So basically, you charge your battery when there is still 20% life left. You will only be able to retain 80% of your original capacity the next time u use.

Companies like Creative Nomads and Dell, uses all lithium batteries which last about 13 hours with 128bytes/s. Although it doesn't look as slick and thin. It is a matter of 1-2 oz difference. While it is more compatable with PC and produce more astounishing sounds. I currently own a nomad and my friend has an ipod. Try with a pair of high end head phones "bose" "sony" The sound is much better with a nomad zen xtra.

the price online and retail is at LEAST 100-200 dollar less

I don't know, you could try it though, it won't hurt them. BTW, the RIAA and those that want DRM on music are stupid.
